THE QUICK ANSWER
What to settle first.
Do not treat water-damaged drywall and a damaged sofa as one municipal pickup category. Salt Lake City’s Call 2 Haul program lists bulky furnishings among accepted items but excludes construction material such as drywall, plaster and flooring. It serves customers of the City’s waste collection service. Confirm eligibility and any contamination restrictions for the actual items before setting anything out, and agree a separate disposal route for excluded restoration debris.
AT A GLANCE
Three points to clarify.
Building materials
Check exclusions before proposing municipal pickup.
Furnishings
Confirm actual item and condition acceptance.
Special waste
Keep chemicals and suspect materials in their approved route.
01 / WORK THROUGH THE DECISION
Identify the item before choosing the pickup route
Prepare an item list from the assessor’s findings: building finish, furnishing, appliance or another material. The City’s ordinary bulky-item examples do not establish that every flood- or sewage-affected item is suitable. Tell the program or hauler about known contamination and ask what handling and destination apply.
Do not dismantle suspect materials to make them fit a category. A wet-material assessment and any needed hazardous-material review come first. Keep possessions that remain under an insurer’s review separate from items authorized for removal.
02 / WORK THROUGH THE DECISION
Separate excluded building debris from possible bulk items
Call 2 Haul expressly excludes construction material and directs construction or demolition debris and large clean-outs toward private haulers. Its household hazardous-waste exclusions also require another route. Confirm your address receives the applicable City waste service; a Salt Lake County address alone does not establish program eligibility.
Imagine an assessment lists a sofa, removed drywall and a container of household chemicals. A single curbside pile would hide three different decisions. Ask which furnishing may be accepted, who handles the building debris and which approved service accepts the chemicals. Do not assume acceptance or mix the items.

Agree what the cleanup quote actually includes
Ask the restoration provider whether removal, handling, hauling and disposal are included or excluded, and who will confirm destination acceptance. Record separately any municipal pickup you arrange. A booked collection is not evidence that the work provider’s debris will be accepted or that all charges are covered.
The ceiling-and-wall service guide explains assessment before finishes are opened. This independent referral website does not book City collections, approve contaminated waste or guarantee disposal eligibility. Ask the answering provider to identify itself and confirm availability, assessment charges and the written scope at your address.
YOUR DECISION WORKSHEET
Item-by-item removal decision
| Example | Question to resolve | Keep separate |
|---|---|---|
| Removed drywall | Who provides the construction-debris route? | Possible bulk furnishings |
| Water-damaged sofa | Will the program accept this condition? | Automatic acceptance from an item list |
| Household chemicals | Which approved service handles them? | Construction and ordinary bulk pickup |

Your call notes
Questions to ask: Confirm City waste-service eligibility at the address. List materials and known contamination honestly. Arrange a separate route for excluded construction debris. Please confirm whether you handle the water removal and drying needs I describe and serve my address, plus any assessment fees and exclusions.
Common questions
Is wet drywall ordinary Call 2 Haul bulk waste?
The City excludes construction material including drywall. Confirm a suitable route with the responsible hauler instead of putting it into a mixed bulk pile.
Does listing furniture as accepted cover sewage-soaked furniture?
The general list does not answer every contamination case. Describe the actual condition and obtain acceptance and handling guidance.
